Cardboard doll house

I must be having suicidal tots when i told lil joy i will let her play with the diy 3d pony puzzle.

Naively thinking maybe she can follow the instructions n be quiet.

I opened the box to get the headache of my life. N got next few hrs of nagging from her. Asking me to finish my work n start building for her.

Then refusing to go out for dinner.

I came back after dinner n spent the next 2 hrs working on it.

Almost finishing soon... but still not quite.

Another view.

DIY Clay unicorn pendant

The is the end result of half a day's work.

I was so pissed with my carelessness with the white clay.. resulting in a grey n dirty looking unicorn which costs me lots of time to clean it up.

Not my best work. I have nvr done a mane b4 and have not much idea how to place them.

If u notice, i place a little silver heart on its butt. Heehee

I proceed to make my first geometric bead necklace.

Which again has its learning curve. Also my first time using gold leafing.

I must say, i am pretty pleased with the result.

This is meant as a gift, i think i will make one for myself too.

Becos lil joy finished all my daiso washi tape, so i replenish them.

Yes.. i do not share my MT tapes with them.

#washi #daiso

So while waiting and to keep the kids busy.

I let her decorate the led candle with tapes.

N decorate my son's arms with tapes.

Then i left for the supermarket and came back with a transformed gal. She is now light enabled.

Tired die us. Lil's joy concert finally ended.

The timing for this year's concert is at 7pm. Haiz.. too late n the kids missed their afternoon naps. Making both very cranky after the ride home..

It is like the most treasured peaceful time now. I was tired but now super awake.

Shekinah Learning Curve Kindergarten Review 2

As mentioned in the previous post, I am sharing some of the works done by Lil Joy to let u all have an small idea of the school curriculum.

Here are the some of the work of lil Joy at the end of 1st term with the school. She started with writing squiggly lines to proper writing within 3 months.

Here is one of the project approach activites in Term 3, they were doing nursery rhymes that term. Lil Joy is starting to do copying work at K1. It is not the best but it was an achievement for her.

By end of Term 3, the K1 students have already learnt addition and subtraction within 20. The rest of the Term 4 was spent on reinforcing the concept. I am surprised that Primary one preparation has already begin at the end of term 3.

After 12 mths of school, Lil Joy is able to read simple story books independently and write simple sentences.

Here some of the books that the school uses and Lil Joy is able to read them on her own.

At almost the end of Term 3 this year, the teachers invited the parents the the school for a mini nursery rhymes performance from the children. Everyone had a blast and I am sure it will be very good memories for the children. I am posting the photo with only my girl here due to privacy issues.

She is the little Miss Muffet.

The school also have school holidays program on every school holidays. It really helps me to eliminate the trouble to find holiday programs for her to widen her learning experiences.

If you are interested in the activities done by the school, you may visit their facebook page for more photos.

Do check out their school if you are staying near Tampines Mart and is looking for a wholesome n comprehensive preschool experience for your child. Shekinah Learning Curve Contact

Shekinah Learning Curve Tampines Mart Review

This review is on Shekinah Learning Curve School at Tampines Mart after my girl has attended it for 12 months.

After my first encounter with Miss Ivy, the next time I drop by at Shekinah Learning Curve (SLC) was in July when I went down to do registration for Lil Joy. The first time I went to the school with classes ongoing was during the registration and I cannot forget the happy atmosphere the children were in. I was not allowed to go into the classroom for fear of disrupting their lessons but the Principal did allow me to have a look through the tinted glass door. I saw a bunch of happy kids learning the Chinese word 'flower' and the Chinese teacher was holding up a real flower to relate the word better for them.

Most importantly, before I sign up with the school, I asked lil Joy if she wants to study here and her answer was again a sure yes whereas she always tell me no at the other schools.

I basically enrolled my girl into the school based on good faith and instinct combined with my girl's willingness to study here. So the strength of the school was discovered later.

Lil Joy's teacher, Ms Cecilia, is a very dedicated teacher who will ask me to stay back after school almost every week during the first month to update me about that Lil Joy, sharing her concern that lil Joy is not able to write. She was encouraging and let me know some of the expectations the school hopes to achieve with the child before the end of Nursery 2. She was also sensitive enough to place her priority in building up rapport with lil Joy first instead of academic work on her during the initial stage. She took the extra mile to work with Lil Joy on basic tracing exercises while the rest of the class are already doing copying work. Ms Cecilia has been prompt at updating all the parents with the children's update ever since the day of registration.

About 1 month down the road, I noticed that all the 3 teachers in the school are all just as good and dedicated. This really reduces the stress for the fear of having the 'lousy' teacher being rotated to my girl's class because all the teachers are equally good.

All the teachers are not just qualified with basic childhood education but some of them are qualified with montessori certification and holds a childhood education degree. If you do a search online, you will notice that Shekinah has another branch, which is a montessori school.

The school has Montessori equipment and uses Montessori methods for some lessons. If you are like me, believing in the strength of montessori but at the same time concerned about the lack of opportunity for your kids to explore the world with their own creativity. This school is too good to be true for me because the school curriculum is really very comprehensive and have the best of both worlds. They are using project-based approach and the teachers took pains to find resources to deliver their lessons to the children in a fun and interactive way. There are science, arts, math, language, and personal development and physical educational incorporated throughout the school term. The children even have a show and tell session at the end of every term.

The school has a formal quarterly meet the parent session, which you can choose to attend. There are also ad hoc updates when there are things to be addressed to, or compliments of the good things your little ones has done during the normal school days.

I need to emphasis that the small class size was something that I appreciate a lot. I believe that the maximum no. of students per class is around 10 to 12. This means the teachers are able to have sufficient attention to every child.

The classroom is open concept but will be closed up into sections during academic work sessions. It is very interesting because the children of all age group are able to interact and learn from each other during joint activities. The older kids will learn to keep a lookout for the younger ones. I have seen how all of them crowd around to help the one who has tripped and fallen down during school dismissal time. It is really just like one big family. I cannot help but relate the school to Toto-chan's school (From the book, Toto Chan). Till this day, I still feel very blessed that God has led me to a school like this for my kids.. and yes.. my son will be enrolling into the school too when he comes to age.

I do have concerns before lil Joy started school in SLC, which are all adequately addressed, by the school.

My first major concern was the carpet flooring because lil Joy is allergic to dust and we do have great concern that she might get sick from the school carpet. Vacuuming is done after every session which means 2 vacuuming is done everyday and major carpet cleaning is done regularly and the toys are being wiped down everyday. So far, lil Joy has not came back with any allergic reactions.

The other concern of mine is the low ratio of Chinese students, lil Joy is the only Chinese in her class. I was hoping that she gets more exposure to Mandarin in school and I was a little bummed that she might not have much chance to speak Mandarin with her same aged friends. But I am so wrong because all the kids learn Mandarin in the class. By end of the 1st term, lil joy is starting to reply us in mandarin, showing more interest in Mandarin by singing songs and reading some Chinese words.

The school is air-conditioned but I see air purifiers and dehumidifier set up in the school to improve the quality of the air.

All in all, the school has made efforts to address all the possible concerns from parents.

I will be posting some of the works that the school has done with Lil Joy which will have more photos and not just a wordy post.

You may also check out more about the school thru their facebook page : Shekinah Learning Curve Facebook

The day we were on leave

Hub on leave and we had a rare treat.. breakfast at cafe.. while lil Joy is in school.

Everything will go well when u begins with coffee.

N egg benedict

Then i stop by at the catholic bookshop to pick up spiritual curriculum for lil Joy. Planning to intro the rosary to her.

#dayreparent #catholic

Went to the national gallery.. just for something to do on a rainy day.

Lil joy promptly made a friend.

There is a new exhibition abt swimming.

Haha.. i am trying to capture the feel of piece here.

Jr J also made friend. This is the first time i see him offering a toy to another kid on his own.

We did some ink printing. N then exhibited our anyhow piece here.

Then there is another room where we can make virtual pottery. It is fun becos ur pottery will go the the kiln screen to be baked and then get displayed on the virtual shelves.

There was a magnetic wall with magnetic tiles at the corridor which captures Jr J's attention.

I am quite surprised by the way he plays with the tiles. He actually have his own idea with the tiles placement.

I was expecting him to randomly stick them onto the white board.

Then of cos. Everyone must go anf make some virtual animals in the virtual woods.

N take a wefie with a shocked toddler. Haha

I nervously ordered 2 tins of puzzle. Planning to use them as busy bag items (from the lazy mom). Nervous becos i am not sure if lil joy will like puzzles n it is a 60 piece puzzle.

Surprisingly, she loves it and is redoing it for the 2nd time.

We got a new bookshelf. Hoho..

Plan is to put our library books here so we dun need to hunt all over the hse. And also to promote reading cos the book covers r more visible like this.

Angel Gowns

On the day of Angel gowns submission, u realised.. u forgot to sew the ribbon at the neckline.

So u pack ribbons, needle n thread and sew on the car. Like doing last min homework.

#angelgown #angelgownsg

Why so rush? Cos hubby wan to go n see orchids.

See then buy. Hahaha like old ppl's hobby like tat.

Today, i collected 2 more gown kits. It is like getting a whole new workbook to do a new assignment.

I opened it up and started some preliminary brainstorming and also tidy some of the materials.

One of it is this strip of fabric filled with beads.

Initially i was gg to unpick them using the seam ripper until i saw these.

Look at all these hand stitches. I can imagine the maker of the garment spending time to sew each bead on.

After a while, i gave up the seam ripper and snipped the fabric into smaller pieces.. since the fabric is not usable for gown making.

Faster way to remove the beads.

Then got a helper to help me pick the beads out.

N here r all the beads.. to be reuse.

Wan to make $ then no time to spend with kids.

Spend time with kids then no time to make $.

Make $ and spend time with kids then no time for ownself.

What is the right balance?
